Virtual Pirates shut out in second straight game

I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.

PITTSBURGH – The Virtual Pirates have apparently misplaced their hitting shoes.

Adrian Houser and Brent Suter combined on a six-hitter Tuesday night as the Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Virtual Buccos 6-0 at Virtual PNC Park.

The Pirates lost for the third time in four games while opening a three-game series and six-game homestand. They are 10-13.

The Pirates were also blanked in their previous game, 3-0 by the Dodgers on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Houser (2-1) pitched 7 2/3 innings and gave up five hits to go with six strikeouts and one walk. He threw 103 pitches before Suter got the last four outs.

Mitch Keller (1-3) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) and five hits in five innings while striking out four and walking two. His pitch count was 73.

Keller surrendered a first-inning home run to Christian Yelich that opened the scoring. Eric Sogard’s RBI single in the second made it 2-0.

Omar Narvaez had three RBIs for the Brewers, two coming on a ninth-inning double off Richard Rodriguez.

Kevin Newman and Colin Moran each had two of the Pirates’ six hits.

It was 49 degrees at game time with the wind blowing out to right field at 8 mph.

Pirates bench coach Craig Wilson continues to be a big hit in his return to Pittsburgh. An outstanding weeknight crowd of 29,774 came out to see the legendary slugger.

With the offense struggling, a team source said the Virtual Corsairs are at least considering trying to talk Wilson into coming out of retirement and joining the active roster.

Wilson is said to be pondering the idea. The 43-year-old last played in the major leagues in 2007.

The Virtual Corsairs and Brewers play the second game of the series Wednesday night with Joe Musgrove (1-2, 6.00) facing Corbin Burnes (0-1, 4.50).

Should be a good ballgame.
