Musgrove wins fourth straight for Virtual Pirates
I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.
PITTSBURGH –
Joe Musgrove has become the Virtual Pirates’ top starting pitcher.
How good is
Musgrove right now? Virtual Buccos bench coach and legendary slugger Craig
Wilson might have a hard time hitting the big right-hander.
Musgrove pitched
6 2/3 scoreless innings and combined with two relievers on a four-hitter Saturday
to lead the Pirates to a 7-1 victory over the Virtual Philadelphia Phillies at
Virtual PNC Park.
It was the
fourth consecutive win for Musgrove (4-2). He allowed three hits, struck out
five, walked two and threw 110 pitches.
The Pirates
won for the third time in four games to improve to 18-20.
The Phillies
avoided being shut out when Didi Gregorius hit his 15th home run of
the season in the ninth inning off Edgar Santana.
Prior to the
game, Santana was recalled from Virtual Triple-A Indianapolis placed while Keone
Kela (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. Kela will miss at least six
weeks.
Nick Burdi
is expected to serve as the closer.
Kevin Newman
had three hits, including an RBI single in a two-run first inning against Jake
Arrieta (4-2) that opened the scoring.
Adam Frazier
belted a three-run home run off Deolis Guerra in the eighth inning, his fourth
of the season. That extended the Pirates’ lead to 7-0.
Josh Bell’s
struggles continued as he went 0 for 4 with four strikeouts and a walk. He is a
woeful 2 for 41 (.049) in his last 12 games.
In other roster
moves, outfielder Brad Brach was released and JT Riddle was designated for
assignment while Adam Duvall was claimed off waivers and Clay Holmes was
activated from the IL.
Brach had a 13.09
ERA and one save in 13 games. Riddle was 2 for 20 (.100) with no extra-base
hits. Holmes began the season on the IL with a broken foot.
Attendance
was 31,535, though the game was played in a steady rain. It was 65 degrees at
first pitch with the wind blowing out to left field at 8 mph.
The Virtual
Corsairs will try to sweep the three-game series Sunday. Trevor Williams (3-3, 5.02)
will start against Zack Wheeler (3-1, 3.27).
