Virtual Pirates' bats silent against Cardinals
I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.
PITTSBURGH –
Strangely, the Virtual Pirates’ bats were silent on Craig Wilson Day.
Dexter
Fowler singled in the tiebreaking run in the top of the ninth inning Monday
night to give the Virtual St. Louis Cardinals a 2-1 victory over the Virtual
Buccos in the opener of a three-game series at Virtual PNC Park.
The Pirates
managed only one run and four hits on the 16th anniversary of their
bench coach’s monster game. On May 11, 2004, Wilson smashed two home runs and a
triple and drove in seven runs in the Real Pirates’ victory over the Colorado
Rockies at Coors Field.
The Virtual
Corsairs wasted a strong outing by Chris Archer, who allowed one run in 6 2/3
innings. Archer gave up five hits, walked three, struck out eight and threw 108
pitches.
Nick Burdi
(2-1) took the loss as he gave up the run in the ninth. Fowler’s one-out hit brought
home Victor Cartini, who led off the inning with a double.
Giovanny
Gallegos set the Pirates down in order in the bottom of the ninth for his 11th
save. John Brebbia (3-2) retired the only batter he faced in the eighth to get
credit for the win.
The Pirates (19-21), fresh off a three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies, missed a chance to get back to .500.

The Cardinals’
Kolten Wong opened the scoring with a run-scoring double in the third inning.
The Pirates matched the run in the fourth on Gregory Polanco’s sacrifice fly.
Adam Frazier
had two hits for the Pirates. Josh Bell’s slump reached 3 for 49 after going
hitless in four at-bats.
While the
game-time temperature was a pleasant 64 degrees, the wind was blowing from right to
left at 19 mph. Time of the game was three hours, 12 minutes, and a shocking
Monday crowd of 32,792 showed up for Craig Wilson Day.
Mitch Keller
(1-3, 3.51) will get the start Tuesday night against Carlos Martinez (2-5, 3.88).
I understand there was a big giveaway to celebrate Craig Wilson Day! Hurray!!
