Virtual Pirates rally in 9th to go over .500

I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.

ST. LOUIS – The Virtual Pirates climbed over .500 on Sunday and did so in dramatic fashion.

Kevin Newman’s RBI single capped a two-run ninth inning as the Virtual Buccos rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Virtual St. Louis Cardinals at Virtual Busch Stadium.

The Pirates swept the three-game series and improved to 30-29.

The Pirates rallied against Jack Flaherty (2-8) after being shut out by him through the first eight innings.

Josh Bell doubled with one out and scored on Elias Diaz’s two-out double. Newman then grounded his single into center field to score Diaz on Flaherty’s 129th and final pitch.

Kyle Crick pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save as he completed the four-hitter. Richard Rodriguez (3-0) worked a scoreless eighth inning for the win.

Trevor Williams allowed only one run and three hits in seven innings while throwing 98 pitches. He had four strikeouts and two walks.

The Cardinals got their lone run in the second inning on Paul Goldschmidt’s leadoff home run.

Bench coach Craig Wilson was again in a generous food-giving mood as he treated the team to a post-game toasted ravioli meal.

It was a beautiful day with the temperature 77 degrees at first pitch. The wind was blowing 11 mph in from left field. Time of game was two hours, 57 minutes and attendance was 37,592.

After having Monday off, the Pirates open a two-game series against the Virtual Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night at Virtual PNC Park. The Virtual Corsairs will send Chris Archer (4-1, 3.31) to the hill against Sonny Gray (6-3, 4.52).
