Archer pitches Virtual Pirates to fourth win in row

I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.

PITTSBURGH – The Real Pirates can only hope Chris Archer will pitch as well for them as he is for the Virtual Pirates.

Archer worked eight strong innings Tuesday night to lead the Virtual Buccos to a 3-1 victory over the Virtual Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a two-game series at Virtual PNC Park.

Archer (5-1) gave up only one run and three hits in helping the Pirates win their fourth straight game and improve to 31-29. In a 101-pitch outing, Archer had seven strikeouts and no walks while lowering his ERA to 3.09.

Kyle Crick pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save.

After allowing Mike Moustakas’ RBI single in the first, Archer held the Reds scoreless over his final seven innings.

The Pirates scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning. Jason Stallings hit a two-run single and scored on Jarrod Dyson’s single.

Bryan Reynolds and Kevin Newman each had three of the Pirates’ 12 hits. Gregory Polanco and Stallings added two hits each.

Sonny Gray (6-4) took the loss, giving up three runs over six innings.

The Pirates continued to make bench coach Craig Wilson look like a soothsayer. Following the first win of the current streak, Wilson predicted it was the beginning of a playoff push.

It was a very pleasant evening with a game-time temperature of 73 degrees and the wind blowing out to center field at 10 mph. Time of the game was two hours, 54 minutes and attendance was 33,761.

The series concludes Wednesday night with Mitch Keller (3-3, 2.88) facing Tyler Mahle (4-3, 6.16).
