Dyson helps Virtual Pirates avoid sweep
I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.
DENVER – A healthy
Jarrod Dyson enabled the Virtual Pirates to salvage what could have been a lost
weekend in the Rocky Mountains.
Dyson went 3
for 4 with a home run to help the Pirates to a 10-2 rout of the Virtual
Colorado Rockies on Sunday at Virtual Coors Field.
The Pirates
avoided being swept in the three-game series while improving to 38-33.
Dyson’s
two-run shot, his second of the season, came during a three-run fifth inning and
broke the game open, giving the Virtual Buccos an 8-2 lead. He reached base four
times as he was also hit by a pitch.
In Friday night’s
series opener, Dyson was forced from the game with a thigh injury. However, he
responded well to treatment Saturday and was back in the lineup that night.
Bryan
Reynolds and Ke’Bryan Hayes had two hits each.
Clay Holmes
(2-0) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Mitch Keller for the
win.
Keller
allowed two runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings but needed 100 pitches to record 13
outs. He struck out five, walked two and hit a two-run double in the second off Jeff Hoffman (6-3) to key a four-run inning that put the Pirates ahead 5-0.
It was 68 degrees at first pitch with the wind blowing in at 12 mph. Time of game was a plodding three hours, 52 minutes and attendance was 32,092.
Craig Wilson
was all smiles following the game and it appeared the bench coach was
celebrating more than just a Virtual Corsairs’ win.
The legendary
Pirates’ slugger was coy about why he was in such a good mood. Industry sources,
though, indicated it could be tied to a press conference that will be held
Tuesday afternoon at Virtual PNC Park.
After having
Monday off, the Pirates return to action Tuesday night by hosting the Virtual
New York Yankees in a two-game interleague series. Steven Brault (2-3, 4.42)
will oppose J.A. Happ (2-3, 5.98).
