Virtual Pirates miss chance to sweep first-place Brewers

I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for daily updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.

MILWAUKEE – Joe Musgrove had one bad inning and the Virtual Pirates missed a chance to sweep a pivotal three-game weekend series.

Omar Narvaez had three hits and three RBIs and Freddy Peralta pitched one-run ball over seven innings as the Virtual Milwaukee Brewers beat the Virtual Buccos 8-1 on Sunday at Virtual Miller Park.

The second-place Pirates (45-38) wound up taking two games from the National League Central-leading Brewers. The Virtual Corsairs are 2 ½ games off the Brew Crew’s pace.

The game was scoreless in the fifth inning when Musgrove walked Christian Yelich with the bases loaded to force in a run. Avisail Garcia followed with an RBI single and Narvaez capped the four-run inning with a two-run single.

The 4-0 deficit was too much for the Pirates to overcome against Peralta (4-6).

Musgrove (9-4) gave up four runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings while throwing 109 pitches. He had four strikeouts and two walks.

Colin Moran had three hits and Elias Diaz and Josh Bell added two each.

Chad Kuhl surrendered a two-run home run to Keston Hiura in a four-run eighth inning

The roof was open on a 71-day degree day with the wind blowing out to left field at 14 mph. Time of game was three hours and 22 minutes and attendance was 41,718.

Though the manager was disappointed at missing out on a sweep, bench coach Craig Wilson cheered him up by saying “keep your chin(s) up, skipper.”

The Pirates return home Monday night to face the Virtual Colorado Rockies in the opener of a three-game series at Virtual PNC Park. Trevor Williams (7-4, 4.60) will pitch against German Marquez (1-5, 4.95).
