Virtual Pirates fall to Padres, Hosmer
I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for regular updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.
SAN DIEGO –
The Virtual Pirates gained a relief pitcher and lost a game Monday night.
Eric Hosmer hit
two home runs and had five RBIs as the Virtual San Diego Padres beat the Virtual
Buccos 7-3 in the opener of a three-game series at Virtual Petco Park.
The Pirates (61-45)
have lost consecutive games for the first time since June 26-27 – exactly one
month ago -- and had their lead in the National League Central cut to 1 ½ games
over the Virtual Milwaukee Brewers.
The Pirates and
Padres also made a trade prior to the game. The Virtual Buccos acquired
reliever Craig Stammen and cash considerations for Triple-A first baseman Will
Craig and Low Class A outfielder Jack Herman.
Already in
town, Stammen was in uniform for the game but did not pitch.
Rumors continue to circulate in the virtual baseball world suggesting the Pirates
are on the brink of a potential blockbuster trade as they attempt to win the
franchise’s first division title since 1992.
Hosmer’s three-run
blast in the bottom of the third inning off Chris Archer put the Padres ahead 3-2.
The Pirates
tied it at 3-3 in the sixth on rookie center fielder Travis Swaggerty’s RBI
single. Hosmer, though, countered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the
inning off Chris Archer to put the Padres ahead for good.
Archer (7-4)
allowed five runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out three and
walking two. He threw 83 pitches.
Colin Moran
had two hits.
Emilio Pagan
(3-2) was the winning pitcher.
Perhaps the
Pirates were tired following a flight from Milwaukee on Sunday night and team
outing Monday morning. Bench coach/director of fun Craig Wilson took everyone
to the San Diego Zoo.
“You can’t
visit San Diego without seeing the world-famous San Diego Zoo,” Wilson said. “I
think our guys enjoyed it.”
The series
continues Tuesday night with Mitch Keller (7-3, 3.04) pitching against Zach
Davies (8-9, 4.41).
