Virtual Pirates drop 1-0 decision to Marlins

I will be serving as general manager/manager of the Pirates in a 2020 season simulation along with 29 others using Out Of The Park Baseball. Feel free to check here for regular updates. I realize baseball is a lot less important than what is going on in the world today but perhaps it can provide a diversion for a few moments.

PITTSBURGH – The Virtual Pirates put enough runners on base but none of them crossed the plate.

Shelby Miller and Drew Steckenrider combined on a six-hit shutout as the Virtual Miami Marlins blanked the Virtual Buccos 1-0 on Sunday at Virtual PNC Park.

The Pirates (75-56) missed a chance to sweep the four-game series but remained 3 ½ games ahead of the second-place Virtual Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central.

Chris Archer (8-7) was the tough-luck loser as he allowed only one run – on a solo homer by rookie Monte Harrison in the seventh inning – on three hits in seven innings. Archer had nine strikeouts and one walk while throwing 90 pitches.

Miller (1-2) pitched the first eight innings and Steckenrider worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save.

The Pirates stranded eight runners. All six of their hits were singles.

“It’s hard to win a game if you don’t score any runs,” bench coach Craig Wilson astutely observed.

The Virtual Corsairs open a three-game series against the Virtual Phillies on Monday night in Philadelphia. Mitch Keller (8-7, 3.62) will face Lance Lynn (7-10, 4.29).
