Virtual Pirates win season finale behind Manaea

PITTSBURGH – The Virtual Pirates finished the regular season on a winning note as they get ready for the postseason. Sean Manaea pitched into the seventh inning to lead the Virtual Buccos to a 3-1 victory over the Virtual Cincinnati Reds on Sunday at Virtual PNC Park. The National League Central division-winning Pirates finished 96-66, having won three games in a row and 11 of their last 12. They also wound up with a 13-game lead over the Virtual Milwaukee Brewers in the division standings. PITTSBURGH – It is official: The Virtual Pirates and Virtual Washington Nationals will meet in a National League Division Series. The Nationals wrapped up the NL East title Friday night while the NL Central champion Virtual Buccos were blanking the Virtual Cincinnati Reds 7-0 at Virtual PNC Park. The Pirates and Nationals both have 94-66 record with two games remaining in the regular season. The team with the better record will host the best-of-five series with the Virtual Corsairs holding the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the season series 4-3. PITTSBURGH – Trevor Williams didn’t have the best of tune-ups as the Virtual Pirates get ready for the postseason. Under consideration to start Game 1 of the National League Division Series next week, Williams lasted just 3 1/3 innings as the Pirates were routed 11-4 by the Virtual Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night at Virtual PNC Park. The loss snapped the Virtual Buccos’ eight-game winning streak, its longest of the season. Williams (16-5) was rocked for six runs, though just two were earned, on five hits. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered a grand slam to winning pitcher Sonny Gray (12-9) in the fourth inning that gave the Reds a 6-0 lead.

Mitch Keller and three relief pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout and the Virtual Buccos blanked the Cubs 4-0 on Tuesday night at Virtual Wrigley Field. The Pirates were shut out by the Cubs on Monday night. The Pirates (86-65) reduced their magic number for clinching the National League East title to five with 11 games remaining.
